Over the years, NMAM Institute of Technology has grown from being an institute with strong emphasis on teaching to one with research bent of mind also. To augment research activities in the institution, the office of Dean (Research and Development) was established in the year 2006. At the besic level, this office aims at monitoring the quality of research leading to Ph.D degree. In that direction, certain measures have been undertaken. Most of the departments in the institution have research centre. Over the years, more and more scholars are working in these research centres for their Ph.D/MSc(Engg) by research. Due to the magnanimity of the management, the research centres have been able to develop its facilities many folds. The Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme of government of India was helpful in taking the level of research facility several notches higher.

At higher level, the institution is involved in sponsored research. The college has been obtaining funding from VTU, DST and  and AICTE for carrying out sponsored research and also for developing the research facility. In the last few years, the college has received  funding to the tune of nearly 10 million rupees for research activities. Presently, about 20 research scholars are working in the research centre and several scholars have already obtained their Ph.D. The faculty members of the institution have about 250 research papers published in research journals and presented in national and international conferences held in India and abroad. Eventhough, all these statistics are by no means tremendous, they represent progress in the right direction. The main areas of research in the institute are twin-spark plug petrol engine, use of biofuel for IC engines, phytochemistry, pharmacology, biofuel synthesis, VSLI, computer network, requirement engineering, distributed computing, total quality management, nano and bio quenchants, special polymers, non-linear optical crystals, graph theory, lattice theory, condition monitoring, micro-electro-discharging machining etc. In the future, the institute’s focus will be on strengthening institutes research capability further, promote research and monitor the quality of research. Being an autonomous institute, presence of a strong research culture should help the institute in redesigning the curriculum through the efforts of board of studies, which in turn would benefit quality cutting edge research work leading to publication in reputed journals.
